New trailer: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie

The summer when I was 15 years old, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles became a really big thing. I purchased a couple of those early comic books and my cousin and I spent way to many hours pretending to be ninja turtles. So I have a soft place in my heart for these pizza eating mutants.

  1. A young female clerk at a comics shop I frequent said she found the tailer disturbing. I can understand what she means. Seems the moviemakers were influenced by Christopher Nolan and have gone dark and gritty. Maybe this was the flavor of the original b&w comics?

Either way, I’m afraid this approach isn’t going away soon. Look at last summer’s Man of Steel. A good friend of mine was the cinematographer on that and even I, ultimately, didn’t like it.

Dark is currently what’s making money, so dark it shall be.

  2. Man of Steel was great. None of the critiques made sense to me. That was the Superman film I’d been waiting my whole life to see, one that would show realistic consequences of people with the power of gods fighting in the middle of a big city. And the griping about what Superman did at the end made even less sense, considering he did the same thing in one of the Reeves films and did the same thing a few times, to the same character, in the comics.

TMNT never really appealed to me though, so the trailer did nothing for me.

  3. I’m in total agreement with Darrin about THE MAN OF STEEL. Enjoyed it enough that I was glad my daughter gifted me the Blu-Ray. As for the TMNT trailer, it very much has the flavor of the original comics, with just a hint of the 80’s cartoons.
