Variety reports that Disney plans to release a third Cars feature film and a sequel to The Incredibles. The announcement was made during a shareholders meeting.
Quite frankly, I’m excited for The Incredibles sequel. It’s one of my favorite Pixar films and I’ve read that writer/director Brad Bird has resisted moving forward with a sequel to the original 2004 film because he wanted the right script. That, I believe, bodes well.
ON THE OTHER HAND – Cars 2 was Pixar’s jump the shark moment. Sure it grossed an obscene amount of money, but it represented the moment the Pixar approach to movies (tell a great story, make money) caved to the Disney approach (just. make. the. money!). So Cars 3? Meh. Thanks, but I’ll keep my cash.
I agree – Incredibles 2 with Brad, awesome, Cars 3, meh.
Cars 2 was the AMC Pacer of Pixar creations…hopefully that will be the last poor Pixar offering… the story was terrible and boring.
The Incredibles sequel for sure! This was a high point and I like to point to it as a much more perfect treatment of the superhero genre than, e.g., Watchmen, which, ick*. I do hope the story takes off from the first one’s ending with The Underminer. Still cracks me up!
*For both the comic book and the movie.
I LOVE The Incredible. I like they didn’t feel the need for heavyweight super stars to lend their voices, other than Samuel L. Jackson.
Though in Despicable Me 2, I really missed Vector. This sequel can go with the Underminer, but I really hope they bring back Jason Lee’s villain, Syndrome.
