LEGO movie sequel slated for 2017

Hollywood Reporter reports that after the surprise success of The LEGO Movie, a sequel is already in the works for a Memorial Day release in 2017. The announced date is significant. February is typically a month for not-your-blockbuster movies which I think is why The LEGO Movie proved to be so successful – nobody was expecting much from it. For the studio to place the sequel in the opening summer blockbuster slot shows confidence in the franchise potential.

Now they just have to get a decent script written.
