Comic Book Resources is reporting that DC Comics is leaving New York City for Burbank, California:
In a letter to employees from DC Entertainment president Diane Nelson provided to CBR by DC, the executive writes, “I can confirm that plans are in the works to centralize DCE?s operations in 2015. Next week, the Exec Team will be in New York for a series of meetings to walk everyone through the plans to relocate the New York operations to Burbank. The move is not imminent and we will have more than a year to work with the entire company on a smooth transition for all of us, personally and professionally.”
New York City is a global center for publishing. Southern California is a global center for entertainment. Geographically DC is demonstrating where its future lies.
Place your bets folks… How long before ‘The Mouse’ acquires DC?
Can’t imagine the editors and art staff of MAD, all life-long New Yorkers, packing up and moving to sunny Burbank. Will be interesting to see what happens…
Mike, not gonna happen. DC is already owned by Warner Bros, which is based in Burbank.
DC was a no-show at NYCC this year, too. I seriously think they wanted to avoid the current storm of backlash against the new 52 and all the criticism they would’ve gotten from the fans. And now they’re going off to California to sulk.
