Times-Picayune editorial cartoonist Eldon Pletcher passes

Eldon Pletcher, The Times-Picayune’s editorial cartoonist from 1966 to 1984, died Sunday of emphysema and congestive heart failure at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, Calif. He was 91.

A native of Goshen, Ind., Mr. Pletcher studied at the Art Institute of Chicago before joining the Army in 1943. He served in the 76th Infantry Division in Europe and was in the Battle of the Bulge. While in the Army, he submitted cartoons to Yank, the weekly magazine that the military published around the world.
