Comic Books Conventions

First ever Salt Lake Comic Con hits 30,000 attendees; Stan Lee to appear

Here in my backyard I’ve watched in amazement as the first Salt Lake Comic Con was announced and a nearly daily announcement of big names in comics who were scheduled to be here. For its inaugural event, they’ve scored an impressive line-up that includes Stan Lee, William Shatner, Adam West, Burt Ward, Henry Winkler, Dean Cain, Adrian Paul, Lou Ferrigno and a score of others. There’s also a list of some of the best local comic artists that will be in artist alley including our good friends here Howard Tayler and Pat Bagley. In all over 200 guests will be featured.

The Salt Lake Tribune is reporting the con has already sold out over 30,000 tickets and estimates a total attendance of over 40,000. As a comparison, the New York Comic Con had just over 30,000 its first year.

  1. I guess I will never attend a comic convention that sold tens of thousands of tickets. I’m too spoilded by the old days when only a few hundred showed up, and I was able to meet and even hang out drinking with the guests.

    Now get off my lawn!

  2. Are you going Alan? I’ll be there on Saturday!

  3. Tyson, I have a media pass awaiting me, but my weekend schedule is pretty tight, so we’ll see if I can get there. I’d hate to miss the inaugural year.
