Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff thanks Mort Walker for Beetle Bailey

Yesterday I noted that Mort Walker turned 90 years old and his comic strip Beetle Bailey turned 63. Also taking notice is Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff who is quoted as saying:

“Your contributions to the nation and our military men and women through your comic strip Beetle Bailey are deeply appreciated,” Dempsey wrote. “For more than 60 years you have given each of us something to smile about and a way to escape the everyday stresses of life.”

The Christian Science Monitor also reports other well-wishers include Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Dolly Parton and Prince Albert II of Monaco.
