Pat Bagley takes Best of the West award

Pat Bagley winning cartoon

Announcements for various national awards are popping up nearly daily now. This year?s Best of the West award goes to Salt Lake Tribune editorial cartoonist Pat Bagley. His portfolio featured cartoons on the NRA?s grip on Congress, the gay-friendly Mormon Church and the bulldozing of public lands.

From Politico cartoonist Matt Wuerker who judged the contest:

?Pat Bagley hits the bulls eye with his bold strokes and rollicking sense of humor,? the judge wrote. ?He brings clever insight to the pressing issues of the day that he illuminates with brilliant color and true wit.?

Second and third place goes to David Fitzsimmons of the Arizona Daily Star and syndicated editorial cartoonist Matt Bors.

The Best of the West contest is open to cartoonists in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
