Crane, Kirkman and Pastis nominated for Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year

2012 National Cartoonists Societys Reuben Award for Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year

The nominees for the 2012 National Cartoonists Society’s Reuben Award for “Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year” have been announced. Nominees are: Brian Crane, creator of Pickles, Rick Kirkman, co-creator of Baby Blues and Stephan Pastis, creator of Pearls Before Swine. This is Rick’s first nomination nod. Brian and Stephan have been nominated previously (third for Brian, fifth for Stephan).

The winner will be announced Memorial Day weekend during the NCS’s annual awards dinner. This year the Reuben Awards weekend will be held in Pittsburgh, PA.

Congratulations to all three. I won’t be disappointed with whomever takes the top prize.

  1. A tough choice. Three superstars, IMO.

  2. Crane and Kirkman are worthy of a Reuben, but Pastis deserves two Reubens. Pearls belongs on Mt. Rushmore.

  3. My Mom always reads ‘Pickles’ to me when I drop by. I just bought 129 1940s Gordo’s by Gus Arriola from a guy in Switzerland. *sigh* gimmie ‘dat ol’ time religion…

  4. Consistently good. Great choices.

  5. All great choices. Great at their craft.
