Politician cries foul to Clay Bennett character assassination cartoon

Clay Bennett cartoon of Scott DesJarlais

U.S. Rep. Scott DesJarlais who is calling foul a Clay Bennett cartoon that depicts him with a gun in his mouth with the caption “The Character Assassination”. The cartoon comes after news broke that the politician, a Republican and Pro-Life candidate, was caught on a phone-call transcript urging a woman with whom he allegedly had an affair to have an abortion.

DesJarlais has threatened Clay’s paper, the Times Free Press, that he would report the cartoon the Capitol Police and bar the paper’s reporters from access to his re-election campaign. The paper considers the threat to report the cartoon the police as an intimidation tactic. Despite fall-out from the politician and supporters, the paper is backing Clay and the cartoon.

  1. *sigh* My, politics are indeed a party.

  2. uh-oh, a cartoon is on the loose…quick notify the Capitol Police that our elected leaders no longer believe in the First Amendment.

  3. …then he pulled the gun out of his mouth and took careful aim at his foot…..

  4. It should be noted that Scott DesJarlais DID put a gun in his mouth, threatened to kill himself during a dispute with his ex-wife.

“In 2010, allegations surfaced that the congressman threatened his ex-wife with a gun, and once spent three hours with a gun in his own mouth threatening suicide during a marital dispute.”

So the imagery wasn’t something Bennett made up. It was actually in the news.

  5. Just proves picture are more powerful than words. As we already know.
