Mike Peters to give Commencement address at Washington University

Mother Goose and Grimm creator and Pulitzer Prize winning editorial cartoonist Mike Peters will be the 2012 commencement address at Washington University in St. Louis in May. Mike graduated from the university in 1965 with a bachelor of fine arts degree.

“It is a great honor to have one of our most distinguished graduates serve as our 2012 Commencement speaker,” Wrighton says. “I have known Mike Peters for many years and have come to appreciate how his time as an undergraduate at Washington University shaped his very impressive career. I know it will be special for him to return to his alma mater to address this year’s graduates.”

Through the years Mike has been back to the University several times to offer lectures, reunions and exhibits.

  1. Mike is one of the nicest, most talented cartoonists in the business!

  2. This will be one commencement address that those graduates will never forget!

Better tell them to be sure to use the bathroom prior to the ceremony so there won’t be any accidents when Mike starts to spin his yarns.

  3. I would love to see this address! Hope somebody posts it on YouTube.

  4. The article says he’ll be addressing 2,800 graduates. Even if Mike cuts his usual hugging time down to 15 seconds per individual, the ceremony is still going to take over 58 hours.

  5. Mike spoke at my college, James Madison University, (not for a commencement) back in the mid-1980’s and he was HILARIOUS! Those students are in for a great treat!

  6. Great! as someone who has been a witness of his speaker superpowers, I’m sure the audience will enjoy it.

  7. Mike will have 2,800 new best friends!
