I’ve just received word that Charles Brooks, Sr. best known as editor of the Best Editorial Cartoons of the Year passed away last night. He will be buried in Birmingham on Monday. He was a past president of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists and editorial cartoonist for The Birmingham News for 38 years.

The 2012 edition of the Best of compilation is still in the works for a release later this year.

  1. 91?? Wow!

I contributed to the Best Editorial of the Year books back in 90s and 2000s. Mr. Brooks was a great editor and a very gracious man.

Sorry to hear of his passing.

  2. I also was a contributor during the 90’s and 00’s.
Mr. Brooks was a benefit to the editorial art form.
May his legacy live on in future editions of BECY.
