Academy Awards nominations announced
Skip to commentsThe Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced this year’s nominees for the Academy Awards. Here are the cartoon/animation related category nominees:
Best Animated Short Film
- Day & Night (Walt Disney) A Pixar Animation Studios Production Teddy Newton
- The Gruffalo A Magic Light Pictures Production Jakob Schuh and Max Lang
- Let’s Pollute A Geefwee Boedoe Production Geefwee Boedoe
- The Lost Thing (Nick Batzias for Madman Entertainment) A Passion Pictures Australia Production Shaun Tan and Andrew Ruhemann
- Madagascar, carnet de voyage (Madagascar, a Journey Diary) A Sacrebleu Production Bastien Dubois
Best animated feature film of the year
- How to Train Your Dragon (Paramount) Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois
- The Illusionist (Sony Pictures Classics) Sylvain Chomet
- Toy Story 3 (Walt Disney) Lee Unkrich
In addition to those specific categories, several animated films (and their music scores, treatments) were also nominated in other categories.
Toy Story 3 was nominated for Best motion picture of the year, sound editing and adapted screenplay.
Exit through the Gift Shop produced by Banksy and Jaimie D’Cruz was nominated for Best Documentary Feature.
John Powell of How to Train Your Dragon was nominated for Achievement in music written for motion pictures (Original score).
And lastly in the Achievement in music written for motion pictures category, two animations were nominated (or better stated song writers working on the animations). Alan Menken (music) and Glenn Slater (lyrics) with I See the Light in Tangled will vie against Randy Newman for his song We Belong Together from Toy Story 3.
