Dutch fear terrorist threats during World Cup

Dutch authorities are worried about a recent threat against the Danish soccer team or Dutch fans during this year’s World Cup in South Africa. The threat was uncovered in April after a terrorist suspect, Abdullah Azam Saleh al-Qahtani, was arrested in Iraq. Al-Qahtani allegedly claimed he and others had “discussed the possibility of taking revenge for the insults of the prophet by attacking Denmark and Holland.” He went on to say that if they were not able to attack the Dutch team, then they could make attacks against Dutch fans.

Officials admit that while al-Qahtani and others (including statements posted on militant Islamic websites) had discussed such a plot, there is on concrete evidence that such a plot is in the works.
