Sri Lankan journalist/cartoonist still missing

Prageeth Eknaligoda, who went missing about a month ago – two days before the presidential election – is still missing and his wife is pressing police to do more to find him.

His colleagues say during the presidential election campaign, Mr Eknaligoda wrote articles in favour of the defeated opposition candidate, Gen Sarath Fonseka.

The wife of the journalist, Sandhya Eknaligoda, says her family is now really worried about his safety as an investigation into his disappearance has made no headway.

A few days ago, she also filed a petition in a court seeking judicial intervention to find her husband’s whereabouts.

Mr Eknaligoda’s colleagues believe that the pro-government supporters may be responsible for his disappearance.

The government denies the allegation.

  1. Things are bad in Sri Lanka. I am India now, and was planning to visit Sri Lanka post-“peace,” but was brusquely refused a visa by consular officials who openly concede the occurrence of a military coup the world doesn’t much care about.

I wish the Committee to Protect Journalists would act for cartoonists in jeopardy like this.
