College cartoonists Comic strips Controversies

Observer student assistant editor resigns

Last Friday I reported that The Observer, an independent student run paper serving Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s, apologized for running an anti-gay cartoon. The assistant editor, Kara King, has resigned saying, “A miscommunication between another editor and myself led to the comic running without me first reading and approving the material. Regardless, no excuse can justify the comic even being considered for publication, and the duty to censor it fell to me. I failed to do so, and am solely responsible for providing a forum for this message of hate.” The comic The Mobile Party was discontinued and the three creators issued an apology last Friday.

  1. Why am I imagining the Three Stooges getting their heads knocked together at the same time?

  2. is that all that happened to the students? no expulsion or disciplinary action?

  3. Why? What happened to the editors of that Danish magazine that ran cartoons that were intended to be offensive? You’re not suggesting that WHO you intend to offend matters, are you?
