Robert Ariail Lurie UN Political Cartoon Award

Former The State editorial cartoonist Robert Ariail has won this year’s United Nations’ Ranan Lurie Political Cartoon Award. Robert is the first American cartoonist to win first prize in the award’s 10-year history. Second and third place went to Silvan Wegmann of Switzerland and Shlomo Cohen of Israel. Robert takes home a $10,000 prize which will be awarded in a ceremony with the Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon.

American cartoonists Mike Keefe of the Denver Post and Rex Babin of the Sacramento Bee earned citations for excellents for their entries. Canadian editorial cartoonist Guy Badeaux of Le Droit also earned a citation.

  1. Great to see another editorial cartoonist whose job was chopped down (like Lee Judge, for example, who won the Fischetti) get honored with a prestigious award and a big cash prize. You go, Bob!
