Lisa’s Legacy Fund grows to include 5k event

Funky Winkerbean creator Tom Batiuk continues to grow his efforts for cancer research. Since the 2007 story-line that climaxed with the death of his Lisa Moore character, a Lisa’s Legacy Fund was established for cancer education and research. Now a Lisa’s Legacy Walk is being organized to raise additional funds for clinic research and treatment.

  • The most he had ever hoped for, he said, was that “some little town in Ohio would do a race and I would do a T-shirt for it.”
  • Sunday’s race will be a bit bigger than that. In fact, the first 400 people who register will receive a one-of-a-kind, long-sleeve T-shirt designed, in part, by Batiuk. To date, 250 people have registered.
  • “It’s a thrill, so neat to see this character make a real-world contribution,” he said.
