Last March I reported that Brad Anderson’s Marmaduke comic strip was in the process of being made into a motion picture, but at the time it was uncertain whether the film would be live action, CG-animated or a combination. According to iAfrica, the movie will be a combination of live-action and CG, much like the “Alvin and the Chipmunks” and “G-Force/.” Filming for the live action has already wrapped up. Casting reportedly includes: Amanda Seyfried will voice Mazie, Jeremy Piven to play Bosco, Ron Perlman will portray Chupadogra, George Lopez is Carlos, and Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie will play Jezebel.

I wanted to come up with some witty, snarky comment about this, but honestly the only thing I can come up with is:
WHY?
didn’t hollywood already do something like this? I think it was called “Beethoven” 1-15
Wasn’t the Garfield movie considered a success? If so, that’s the only reason they needed to do a Marmaduke movie.
my kids actually enjoy the garfield movie…maybe marmaduke will provide me with something else to keep them quiet for a couple of hours…
Didn’t they already make this movie and call it Scooby Doo?
maybe they will just take all of the animated scooby doo footage and past it into marmaduke. Just change the color of the collar and you have two different dogs.
Brian, shhh. Don’t let it out. We all know Disney’s been recycling footage for years; this probably will too.
To the Marmaduke movie makers–NO! NO! NO! If this story is correct, there will be no Phil Winslow, no Dottie Winslow, no Barbie Winslow, no Billy Winslow–in other words, no family of which Marmaduke has been a part for over a half-century!!!
The movie apparently is not going to be true to the spirit of the cartoon panel. As a Marmaduke fan, I feel betrayed and I hope this movie flops.
According to IMDB, Lee Pace plays Phil Winslow, Judy Greer plays Debbie Winslow (perhaps “Dottie Winslow” sounded too gay, like Bruce Banner), Carol Sunshine plays Barbara Winslow (Barbie is TM and (C) Mattel Toys), and Finley Jacobsen plays Brian Winslow (a guy named Billy once seduced the producer’s wife).
So it’s only SLIGHTLY raping the spirit of the classic cartoon panel.
