Best Syndicated Strip….. The Norm? As great as it was, Michael Jantze stopped drawing that strip in 1994.
Congratz to all the nominees!
Since this is the first time I’ve ever been nominated for anything, I’m very excited by this!
Tonight, I plan to booze up and riot!
The Norm left syndication in 2004, not 1994.
I’m not sure this has much effect on your criticism of the nomination, mind you. The current series on-line is from 1999, when Norm camped out for the opening of “The Phantom Menace.”
“Michael Jantze stopped drawing that strip in 1994.”
Actually, he took it out of syndication in 2004 & it continued on his website.
Oop… Peterson beat me to it.
This seems like a good time to recommend the new book, THE ART OF HARVEY KURTZMAN: THE MAD GENIUS OF COMICS. What an amazing book it is, too – chock full of cartooning history and wonderfully illustrated. When I saw it at our local Barnes & Nobles, I went ahead and bought it for the cover price rather than wait to find it possibly cheaper on Amazon; it was worth it!
Kelly,
Is Michael still producing The Norm?
Hey, John –
Yes – Michael’s in the last phases of “Knocked Out Loaded”, Norm’s current story arc over on Jantze.com. (It is behind a subscription wall, however.)
Wondermark got a nod? I am so incredibly excited for Malki!
