The National Cartoonist Society has awarded this year’s Reuben Award for the Outstanding Cartoonist of the year to Al Jaffee. Al is a legendary cartoonist who is best known for his MAD Magazine’s Fold-in. He joined Mad Magazine in 1964.
This year’s Newspaper Panel division award has been given to Chad Carpenter who draws the self-syndicated comic panel Tundra. Chad’s feature is one of the most successful self-syndicated strips in newspapers appear in over 200 papers in North America.
Bil Schorr was honored with this year’s NCS Division award in the category of Editorial Cartoons. “I’d like to thank Mike Ramirez for leaving one award for the rest of us,” Bill joked as he received the award.
Jim Meddick has been awarded Best Newspaper Strip by the NCS for his comic strip Monty
Tom Richmond has been awarded the Advertising Illustration award. Tom is a MAD Magazine cartoonist since 2000. He won this division award previously in 2003.
This year’s NCS divison award for Book Illustration goes to Sandra Boynton. Sandra’s career began in greeting cards and then into children’s board books. She’s also produced four albums based on her children’s books. She was honored with this year’s NCS Milton Caniff Lifetime Achievement Award.
Sean Kelly was honored by the NCS in the category of Best Newspaper Illustration.
This year’s NCS division award for Animated feature goes to David Silverman for his work on The Simpsons Movie. David was the director of The Simpsons movie as well as The Road to Eldorado and worked on Pixar’s Monster’s Inc.
Stephen Silver has been awarded this year’s Television Animation division Award for his work on the television show Kim Possible. Currently Stephen is a character designer at Disney Television Animation and has done work for Warner Bros and Columbia Tristar.
Mort Gerberg was honored with the NCS division award for Gag Cartoons. He was also a presenter today.
Shaun Tan was honored by the NCS in the category of Comic Books.
In the Category of Greeting Cards, Dave Mowder has been honored by the National Cartoonist Society.
Daryll Collins was honored with the NCS division award for best Magazine Feature/Magazine Illustration.
