Clarion-Ledger editorial cartoonist Marshall Ramsey will be live blogging tomorrow nights election results. For cartoonists not yet blogging, their greatest concern (and only contribution to their newspaper) is wondering how to draw election result before the election is final. To my knowledge, Marshall will be the first cartoonist to live blog an event – posting multiple cartoons on observations of the election. A much greater contribution to the newspaper and offers more interaction with its readers.
Live coverage begins around 6:30 p.m. EST. It will be an interesting experiment. Here’s the link.
I actually did this during the last general election:

It worked reasonably well, except that I was also doing a regular cartoon for the next day’s paper at the same time, which cut into blogging time. Traffic to the blog increased about three fold….my editors were happy with it. Still, I’d do it differntely next time; More writing and more sketches, and I’d skip the regular cartoon to free up more time for blogging.

Thanks Nick for the link. Those are some good cartoons. Stuff like what you and Marshall are doing is what I could envision the editorial cartooning community doing more often – live reporting. It just fits into this new era of more news provider/reader interaction created by blogs, forums and icaught/youtube.
Nick,
Maybe you could talk your paper into letting an unknown talent take over the daily cartoon while you blogged…could be a boost for their career…
