J. B. Handelsman passes at age 85

New Yorker cartoonist J.B. Handelsman has passed away at the age of 85. According to his obituary in the New York Times, he had nearly a thousand cartoons published in the New Yorker. The Comics Reporter has more information along with several related links.

Today I scrolled through the 900 plus Handelsman cartoons published on the internet. I was impressed by Bud’s satyrical wit. A wit usually associted with the dry political humour of the British. He was a sharply observant,
cuttingly homourous man,with a God given talent which he developed and utilized to the full.
Both professors and plebs, students and housewives saw homour in his work. Each interpreting his message, at a level that spoke to them personally and bought a smile to the face, with his interpretation of the crazy mixed up world in which we live. A sad loss!
