Mr. Media has posted a lengthy and interesting interview with Lee Salem, President and Editor at Universal Press Syndicate. Mr. Salem fields questions about his first impressions about Doonesbury, The Far Side, Calvin and Hobbes, Cathy, For Better or For Worse, Foxtrot, Boondocks, Bloom County and Lio.
There’s also an interesting discussion on the Universal Press culture and why is it that Universal’s cartoonist (at least high profile) retire early or take long sabbaticals or both. Other questions include why the Cathy Guisewite’s Cathy gets picked on so much – even by fellow cartoonists.
There are some other ‘toon gems as well. Worth the read.
Alan,
Thanks for recommending the Mr. Media interview with Lee Salem! I look forward to doing more comics-related interviews in the coming weeks.
Best,
Bob Andelman
Yes, thank you for the link. Lee Salem is one of the Giants of Industry, as far as comic syndication goes. He comes off as genuine and professional. Good questions, good interview.
Hi, Neat post. There’s a problem with your website in internet explorer, may test this? IE still is the market chief and a big section of other people will omit your magnificent writing due to this problem.
