Comic strips

This week’s comic page line-up changes

After receiving complaints that the print on the Sunday comics were too small and hard to read, they’re printing the comics bigger – but discontinuing a couple of strips to make room. They’ve dropped Peanuts, Frank & Earnest, Rose is Rose, Blondie, B.C. and Family Circus. These will continue to run as dailies. Mother Goose and Grimm which was running only as a Sunday feature has been dropped completely.

The Times Dispatch is still running guest comics. Next week they’ll begin running Stephan Pastis’ Pearls Before Swine (currently it’s Rich Stevens Diesel Sweeties.)

  1. Hmm…well, I guess I should be glad the The Sacramento Bee is doing something about the small size. It’s also nice to see that newer comics avoided being dropped this time around, too. (although granted, I don’t know what comics SacBee runs altogether)

  2. Here’s what they run on a daily basis:

    Baby Blues
    B.C.
    Beetle Bailey
    Bizarro
    Blondie
    Crankshaft
    Dennis the Menace
    Dilbert
    Doonesbury
    Drabble
    Family Circus
    For Better or For Worse
    Frank & Ernest
    Frazz
    Garfield
    Get Fuzzy
    Grand Avenue
    Hi and Lois
    Jump Start
    Lio
    Luann
    Mark Trail
    Marmaduke
    Mutts
    Non Sequitur
    Pajama Diaries
    Peanuts
    Pearls Before Swine
    Pickles
    Rose is Rose
    Sally Forth
    Zits

  3. Oh, and another change was forgotten. In the New Hampshire Union Leader (Manchester, NH), Cathy was replaced by Overboard.

  4. Wow, some big names were dropped there.

  5. Please do not eliminate Leo. If you must eliminate, take out F-Minus.

  6. HEY!! Keep the line up the way it was. We want “Tundra” back. The comics are plenty big enough to read, you don’t need to eliminate anything for space. Please tell the puzzle people to stop fooling around with Crypto Quote. Keep the lines spaced. ITS OUR FAVORITE PUZZLE.q

  7. Please don’t drop Tundra—–it was one of the few worth reading—when will it return?

  8. Hey Pat, Tundra will be returning on April 1 in an all-new animated format for the i-pad and Nintendo DS. I think you’ll like the new format!

  9. Rodd, Is Brevity going to be included with that package?

  10. the replaced comics freshly squeezed and diamond lil,are good ones.the removal of tundra was bad move. the removal of lio was good (a violent comic) move. Mutts is a noncomic and would be good to replace with one with better humor.
sorry yo be late in my opinion.

  11. i love Sherman’s lagoon and tundra too which you deleted–please reinstate tundra and keep sherman’s lagoon
–if you don’t have enough room delete some of the bad news of the day to make room.

  12. actually i forgot to tell you to eliminate doonsberry–it’s is stupid.

  13. The two new comic series you are running this week are soooo not funny. The two you tried out last week were better, and Tundra of the original two is fairly good. Why not bring in Overboard. Read it for years in San Jose Mercury, and always thought it was very clever. And for a one panel cartoon, love Close to Home. Bizarro today was a hoot!

  14. I have read comics for as long as I remember and they and the puzzles as what stop me for cancelling the paper , but know it is getting really bad especially the comics! So glad you cancelled Leo , wish you cancel Maximus, FMinus ,Pearls before Swine, Get Fuzzy , Dilbert. I don’t read those , but I can”t immagine anyone with some brain would.Sorry maybe I’m too old , but I don’t get the humor

  15. PLEASE BRING TUNDRA BACK. THOSE THAT YOU HAD TAKING TUNDRA PLACE WERE SO BAD. THE PRINT WAS SO BAD YOU COULD NOT READ IT. THANKING YOU.
