Today marks 75 years since Dick Tracy appeared on the comics pages. Several cartoonist are paying tribute. Here is a list of features that I’ve been able to find that mention, display or otherwise give homage to Chester Gould’s creation:
- Ripley’s believe it or not
- Gasoline Alley
- Shoe
- Gil Thorp
- Brewster Rocket
- Alley Oop
- Rubes (which also features Blondie)
- Loose Parts
- Beetle Bailey
- Wizard of Id
- Frazz
- Dick Tracy
- Buckets (Sept. 29th)
- Dog Eat Doug
- Off the Mark
- Luann
- Silo Roberts
- Grand Avenue
- Soup to Nutz
If you see more, email me and I’ll add it to the list.
There is also an interesting article in the Sun Journal about Dick Tracy, its history, creator, and success of the strip.
“Dog Eat Doug” by Brian Anderson also did one, too.
Silo Roberts and Grand Avenue from United Media also had Tracy tributes today.
While KFS, NEA/UFS, and Creators had some strips do the tribute thing, I don’t think a single UPS strip went with the flow.
“Nest Heads” did one

As did the other Copley strip
