Because DreamWorks SKG is a publicly traded company, its movies are of great interest to Wall Street – not so much for their entertainment value but rather their stock performance article. This story out of Reuters discusses the expectations Wall Street had for DreamWorks movie, “Over the Hedge“, that was based on Michael Fry and T. Lewis’ comic strip. With only one more weekend to go before the launch of Pixar’s “Cars,” analysts are downgrading their expectations for the Hedge movie as it has underperformed their expectations.
“It now appears unlikely that ‘Over the Hedge’ will reach either our estimate of $195 million in domestic box office or original consensus expectations of $180 million,” Merrill Lynch analyst Jessica Reif Cohen wrote in a research note Wednesday after others had raised concern last week.
