Cow and Boy, Brevity, Get Fuzzy, Pearls Before Swine in; Mary Worth, Close to Home, Buckles and Cathy Out

The Winona Daily News has reported that after sifting through 500 survey responses that they will be making four changes on their comics page. Newly launched “Cow and Boy” will replace “Mary Worth” – who has run in that newspaper since 1947; “Brevity” takes over “Close To Home;” and “Get Fuzzy” takes the slot of “Cathy.” I found it humorous that one of the reasons Get Fuzzy was replacing Cathy was because readers “felt Cathy was a whiny, insecure, weight-obsessed woman who didn?t really represent what they felt.” Is that to say Darby Conley’s feature is DOES represent how women really feel?

Lastly, David Gilbert’s Buckles will be replaced by Pearls Before Swine.
