Controversies Editorial cartooning

Marshall Ramsey: “A picture isn’t worth a thousand riots!”

Marshall Ramsey, editorial cartoonist for the Clarion-Ledger, has written an opinion piece for his paper on the topic of the Mohammad cartoonsI’ve offended before. I’ve made my share of people mad. Satire is never pretty, clean or without victims. A good editorial cartoon cuts to the quick of the truth efficiently and, sometimes brutally. And a cartoonist always dances on the line of good taste.

I’ve done the waltz on the edge several times.

But if a cartoonist crosses a line, he or she should not be beheaded by an extremist’s bloody sword.
