Tank McNamara to make leap to television

Universal Press has announced that “Tank McNamara” will be developed into a television show.

“TANK MCNAMARA,” the venerable sports comic strip, has been optioned by Bender-Brown Productions for development into a television project.

Chronicling the adventures of an ex-pro football player turned TV sports reporter, TANK has been running steadily in more than 300 papers since 1975. In 1987, TANK was named Sports Cartoon of the Year by the National Cartoonists Society.

Bender-Brown Productions is a partnership between Kevin Kelly Brown, who originated and executive produced the “Roswell” TV series, and Lawrence Bender, the Oscar-nominated producer of “Pulp Fiction”, “Good Will Hunting” and “Kill Bill.” Bender-Brown produced the CBS series “Dr. Vegas,” the sci-fi miniseries “Earthsea,” and the MTV movie, “Anatomy of a Hate Crime.”

When launched,Tank McNamara will join Boondocks as a current comic strip that has made the leap to television.
