Tony DePaul, Tayo Fatunla, John M. Burns, David Fitzsimmons, and pagination?
When Writer and Syndicate Disagree
Tony DePaul offers some opinions on the just passed Presidential Election, but before getting to that he addresses a problem he is having with management at King Features about the current Sunday Phantom story:
Meanwhile, I’ve been required to participate in a distracting little dust-up with the desk at King Features. Before it’s over, I might end up pulling my byline off the Sunday story I told you about last time. I hope it doesn’t come to that but that’s the publishing business, people have different ideas about it. It’s all good, we’ll work it out.
A mystery that very well may remain a mystery.

Disrupted Comics Pages
The Rogue Valley Times‘ syndicated comics and puzzles were unavailable at press time for the Wednesday, Nov. 6, print edition.
The Bulletin was unable to publish its regular comics, puzzles, Dear Abby, horoscope and bridge column in Tuesday’s newspaper.
Don’t know how widespread it was in the EO Media Group but apparently their pagination service didn’t come through this week for at least the Rogue Valley Times and The Bend Bulletin.
“The Rogue Valley Times‘ syndicated comics and puzzles will return for Saturday’s print edition.”
The Unseen Art of John M. Burns
John M. Burns, who died last December, was one of Britain’s, if not the world’s, finest continuity artists. In a career spanning over 60 years, he produced vast amounts of work for numerous British weeklies…
He also drew hundreds of newspaper strips, including “The Seekers”, “Danielle”, “George and Lynne”, “Modesty Blaise”, “Eartha”, “Jane” and “Psycops”, to name but a few.
Although always in demand, John found time between his numerous long term work commitments to help John Dakin in his quest to revive the British newspaper comic strip. Unfortunately, this revitalisation never happened, but over a 15 year period, both Johns created characters, strips and full colour pages that, until now have barely been seen by the public.
John Freeman at downthetubes has news of a forthcoming book about adventure strip artist John Burns.
