Lectrr wins European Cartoon Award

Steven Lectrr Degryse winning European Cartoon Award cartoon.

This year’s European Cartoon Award goes to Steven Lectrr Degryse (AKA Lectrr) for his cartoon of Russian opposition leader and political prisoner Alexei Navalny. The award is presented during European Cartoon Day ceremony presented by the European Press Prize and Studio Europa Maastricht.

The European Cartoon Award, started in 2019, is dedicated to supporting and promoting political cartoons in Europe.

This year’s award finalists include Tjeerd Royaards (Netherlands) and Victor Solís (Mexico). Judges included last year’s winner Ben Jennings (UK).

  1. Quite the darkest thing I’ve seen from Lectrr, who I know much better as a great gag cartoonist. I normally think of Tjeerd Royaards as the shit-hot political commentator. But a deserved win.

    Maybe we’ll get Lectrr to come to Galway next year, and get Tjeerd to interview him! Ben Jennings interviewed by Harry Burton (last year’s silver medalist) worked really well.
