ACC Townsend Awards Go to Marc Beaudet (French) and Sue Dewar (English)

The Townsend Award (“the Townsie”) is a two-fer from the Association of Canadian Cartoonists one for the best Anglophone cartoon of the year and one for the best Francophone cartoon of the year.

As Mike Peterson reported (and, again, we’re setting this up as a stand-alone item):

The Canadians then presented the Townsend Award, named for George Townsend, a British military commander who had a penchant for drawing funny pictures of his fellow officers and politicians and may have been the continent’s first political cartoonist.

The French-language winner was Marc Beaudet.

And in English, the award went to Sue Dewar.

Mike also lists two other awards that were handed out that night…

A Golden Gable Award to Christian Vachon curator of the Musee McCord Stewart for contributions to the profession, and The Gable Prize, awarded to non-Canadians, went to Scott Burns who is parliamentarian for the AAEC.
