In 1993, the New Yorker published a cartoon featuring two dogs sitting at a computer. With a paw resting on the keyboard, one says to the other: “On the internet, nobody knows you’re a dog.”
Today, the iconic image still resonates, holding the record as the most reprinted New Yorker cartoon in the magazine’s history. Earlier this month, it hit a new milestone: The original drawing sold at auction for $175,000, the highest amount ever paid for a single-panel cartoon.
The Smithsonian covers the auction of Peter Steiner’s famous cartoon.

All at PCO were shocked and saddened to hear of the death of Tony Husband, one of the cartoon world’s all time greats.
There have already been numerous fine tributes written about Tony – here’s a great memoriam by John Freeman on Down The Tubes comics-related blog. Another excellent testimonial with wonderful photos and video links can be found on the Greater Mancunians site. The BBC also marked his passing and this from The Guardian.
For our own tribute, we asked our members to share some of their favourite cartoons from the ‘Husband’ archive. What better legacy could Tony have left but his joyous body of work.
Professional Cartoonists’ Organisation gathered a score of their members to pick their favorite Tony Husband cartoons in tribute to the cartoonist upon the occasion of his recent death.

The Israeli-Hamas War and cartooning.
An Israeli caricature website robbed one of my recent drawings published on Facebook, the artist Uri Fink replaced Netanyahu with Meltham and replaced Elias with a baby, this is a piracy growing from the inability of Israeli artists to create a compelling caricature idea and failure to justify the barbarism of their country that is visible to the world.
Albawaba, “your gateway to the Middle East.” reports on an Israeli site appropriating an Emad Hajjaj editorial. Cartoonists Rights’ Facebook page also notes.
