Sources tell TDC that former Andrews McMeel Universal President John Glynn has been hired by King Features Syndicate. John will help with creator relations and feature development for the New York-based syndicate. He started Friday, March 3.
John was with AMU for 20 years starting as Associate Editor and rising to President and Editorial Director replacing Lee Salem at Andrews McMeel Syndicate before leaving in 2020.
When reached for comment, John confirmed the news and tells me that since he departed from AMU, he has worked pro-bono with cartoonists advising them in their syndicate contacts and negotiations. That work led to KFS offering him a contract position to assist them with their relationships with their cartoonists.
Editor’s note: John was editor-in-chief of The Daily Cartoonist from 2017-2020.
Correction: The original post incorrectly cited John as past President and Editorial Director of Andrews McMeel Universal. It has been updated to reflect his role was in the syndicate division.
The man who deleted the comments section from Alley Oop on GoComics.
He could delete all of them and not much of value would be lost.
I had assumed that that was at the request of the writer and/or artist.
If your comic only gets extremely negative comments, you should probably try to improve it instead of deciding that the solution is No Comments.
McEldowney ended the comments on Chickweed Lane because he got occasional criticism amid the constant praise, and quality has nosedived ever since.
This decision did not have a positive effect on Alley Oop. The storylines are horrible.
Let’s hope he improves the Comics Kingdom website and daily email…
Great news! John is one of the good guys in the business. I’m glad to hear King had the good sense to bring him on board.
Great news! Glad King brought him aboard.
Congratulations, John!!
Awesome! Congrats, John.
