Cartoonist Matt Dent has passed away.
Matthew Scott (Matt) Dent
August 4, 1971 – September 20, 2021
artist, illustrator, cartoonist
From the obituary:
Matt graduated from TL Hanna High School in 1989 and went on to Kansas City Art Institute, where he graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
He worked at WSPA TV in Spartanburg, SC early in his career. He later moved to Aiken and began working at Savannah River Site in the art department. Matt was a gifted artist in many genres.
He published a book, “Willy Who,” of a cartoon character he developed over the years.
From a Matt Willy Who… Facebook page post in 2015:
The year was 1990. I was an art student in college who was interested in writing and illustrating his own comic strip but was bankrupt on ideas. As fate would have it, a friend of mine decided to test the levels on the amount of tomfoolery I was willing to tolerate. Once that breaking point was breached inspiration hit and Willy Who… was born. It is now 25 years later and I am still writing and illustrating my comic strip. For anyone interested I have been busy compiling a comprehensive collection of over 650 strips that encompass (almost) every strip created over those 25 years. That collection can now be found at Amazon.
