A glimpse behind creating an episode of The Simpson’s

I always wondered what how involved Matt Groening (Life in Hell, The Simpsons) was in the production of The Simpsons. I presumed that after 17 years, it had his name on it, but most of the heavy lifting was done by others. According to this article in the Seattle Times, he is still very much part of the weekly production.

And you thought putting a “Simpsons” episode together was some chaotic laugh riot thrown together in a week?

Like encountering a costumed Mickey Mouse without his head backstage at a Disney theme park, it is a little disconcerting at first to hear the voices of the Simpsons ? Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa ? and their friends and neighbors coming from the mouths of people rather than cartoons.
