Bill Griffith talks about online Zippy business

Zippy the Pinhead creator Bill Griffith was interviewed by the Hartford Courant about the online business side of his comic strip. According to the article, the sales of Zippy memorabilia and accessories on zippythepinhead.com has grown from one third to half of his income. The article also talks about some of the products and services that he uses for his online business.

Q: How are Z-sales faring in these unfunny economic times, and how come you don’t sell muumuus?

A: The rough economic times we’re going through have definitely affected sales, especially of higher-priced things, like original art. People seem to be opting more for signed prints than last year. But lower-priced stuff, like T-shirts and books, are still selling pretty well. My big drawing card on the Zippy site is that I autograph all the Zippy books I sell. Amazon can’t offer that! As for Muumuus, good idea! I’ll ask Zazzle.com to offer them in pure plush polyester.
