Jordan wants to extradite Danish editors, toonist

A Jordanian court is holding an in-absentia trial on 10 Danish editors and one cartoonists who published the Mohammed cartoons under a 2006 Jordanian law called the Jordanian Justice Act that allows Jordanian officials “to prosecute crimes committed outside the country if it affected the people of Jordan by electronic means.” The public prosecutors will ask the Danish government to extradite the 11 individuals and if they refuse, the prosecutor will take the request to Interpol (international police organization). The Danish foreign ministry has said that deportation is not a possibility as no Danish laws were broken.

  4. Well, what a convenient law. Too bad Denmark has, “No foreign laws are applicable to Danish citizens, especially Jordanian law,” in THEIR books.

    By the same precedent, they’d have to deport Alan under the retroactively applicable June 2008 Jordanian We Matter More Than Anyone Else On Earth law, stating, “No Infidel may utter that name by any means whatsoever,” for mentioning the name “Mohammed” on this blog… aw, crap, now they got me too. WILL IT NEVER END?!

    Meanwhile at Interpol:

    “BAHHHH-HAHAHAHAHA!! *sniff* No, wait, are you serious? You’re serious? *snicker* BAAA–HAHAHAHAHA…”

  7. Now that I think about it, it is quite depressing. Hopefully, someday, the tolerance pendulum will starts swinging back the other way…in the meantime artists have to be brave, and if they feel like they should comment on something, or draw a particular cartoon that could be offensive because it does have a controversial point to be made, they should. That is what satire is all about — making fun of what other people say you shouldn’t ever make fun of — so things change and get better.

  9. Next Jordan will indict and extradite the entire Warner Brothers animation department for the halal-violating crime of depicting a p-p-p-pig on screen.

    No, wait a minute, isn’t ALL representative art – that is, any depiction of a person or animal – banned under Sharia law? Let them extradite the curators of the Louvre and the Barbican!
