Robert Light – RIP

Editorial cartoonist Robert Light has passed away.

Robert W. (Bob) Light [RWL]
April 11, 1961 – October 18, 2019

From the Gibson Publishing obituary:

Robert Light, famed Delta cartoonist, passed away on Oct. 18 after a long bout with an illness at 58. Light worked at the River News-Herald and Isleton Journal, the sister paper of the Benicia Herald for 13 years under the Gibson Publishing umbrella until his death.

As a political cartoonist for the Rio Vista (Calif) River News-Herald Robert leaned toward the conservative side. His Politykes cartoons mostly dealt with national and world issues, while those titled Odds & Ends were mostly gag cartoons.

His regular Rio Life cartoons were for the state and local issues.

(The Highway 12 drawbridge has a habit of getting stuck in the up position.)

However, if you were a resident of The Delta area in one matter he was cheered on by all
– his opposition to the massive, water-sucking twin tunnels proposal.

The photos section of Bob’s Facebook page has quite an archive.

RIP, RWL
