The Standard Examiner (Ogden, UT) has announced that it is soliciting feedback on which comic should join their line-up. Comics to be considered include, Richard Thompson’s Cul de Sac, Tony Carillo’s F-Minus, Mark Tatulli’s Lio, Michael Fry and T. Lewis’ Over the Hedge, and Brian Crane’s Pickles. No deadline has been set for a change.
According to a post over on RACs by Brian Fies, the Santa Rose Press Democrat has made some changes to their daily and Sunday comics. New comics featured in their line up include: Pearls Before Swine and Pickles. Dropped comics include: Luann, Sherman’s Lagoon, Flying McCoys, Prickly City, Sally Forth, Cathy, Candorville, Elderberries and Prince Valiant.
In the dailies: Bliss, Pearls Before Swine, Baby Blues, Cul De Sac, Mutts, and Pickles. Dropped from dailies: Elderberries, Prickly City, Cathy, Candorville, and Sally Forth.
And lastly, The Citizen’s Voice has picked up Signe Wilkinson’s Family Tree to replace They Do it Every Time which is being retired after the death of Al Scaduto.
I remember when “Prince Valiant” used to appear in the Sydney newspaper THE SUN HERALD every Sunday. A new editor revamped the comics section and dropped it along with most of the other strips. There was unrest among the readers and the comic strip section was finally reinstated.
But not “Prince Valiant.” It had been snapped up by their main rival THE SUNDAY TELEGRAPH and continues to appear there to this day.
There must be a moral to this story but I’m not sure what it is. Maybe the SANTA ROSE PRESS DEMOCRAT could suggest one.
