Barney Google (and Snuffy Smith)
June 17, 1919 – present (and beyond)
We’ve mentioned the centennial celebration here and here and here.
So this is just to mark the official 100th on June 17, 2019.
John Rose, after a couple of weeks with birthday guests,
jumped the gun by one day with the June 16, 2019 Sunday being a big celebration strip.
A visual treat with all the Hootin’ Holler characters, plus a bunch of Barney Google characters from decades past (love that drop panel with the DeBeck, Laswell, and Rose depicted title pair).
Can anyone tell me who those last two women in the last panel are?
Keep checking in as there is still a day or two left in the anniversary observance.
Also this weekend Tea wrote a Comics Kingdom blog entry profiling creator Billy DeBeck.
Tea gifts us with some important Barney Google strips and rare DeBeck art.
Remember – King Features Syndicate (1915) was only four years old when Barney Google began.
There’s more!
King Features made Sunday a real Day of the Roses by featuring
John and daughter Sarah in the June 16 Popeye’s Cartoon Club:
Thank you so much for your wonderful coverage of our big, bodacious centennial birthday celebration! I really appreciate it! It sure has been a very special time.
