Doonesbury creator Garry Trudeau spoke at the Center for Cartoon Studies last night about his career and challenges in the comic industry. On the topic of challenges, Garry says that it’s never gotten easier, but what topics that generated controversy in the 70’s have been largely destigmatized.
He was also asked if he draws all the strips or if he used assistants. Garry replied that he does all the pencil work, but another person does the inking and another does the color.
Garry was at the center as part of a fundraiser for the school.
The Spelling Ninja strikes again: “abotu”?
It’s nice to hear Garry still pencils his strips. Given the work flow of comic BOOKS, I don’t think it’s a big deal to delegate the inking and coloring to others. It’s when other people do everything that a strip can lose its vision.
Fixed. The Editor needs and editor.
“Fixed. The Editor needs and editor.”
LOL Okay, then. Should be “an editor.” 😉
(sigh), yes Dawn, it should be.
Alan, even Lee Salem gets edited, because he know that what you said is true: even editors need editors. 🙂
Is he available? 🙂
Ha!! LOL
It would be nice. I just noticed I wrote “he know what”…
You guys are like Lewis and Martin … LOL! What was this thread about! 😉
