Editorial cartoonist Ed Stein to release webcomic

Last August, Ed Stein announced he was ending his long-running strip Freshly Squeezed (which was an extension of Denver Square) and hinted that he was gearing up for another project. Yesterday he posted news that the new project was a webcomic.

From Ed:

In the next few weeks (I hope) I?ll launch the first installments of Sleeper Ave, a web comic about?well, lot?s of things?but based primarily on my memories of growing up in a small town in central Texas during a time of enormous social change in America.

Part of the fun of doing a project like this is building an audience. So, if you like my work, spread the word. Here?s a peek at one of the drawings from the first story:

  1. Best wishes with the new webcomic, Ed! I’ve been a fan and follower of Freshly Squeezed for quite some time, so I’m looking forward to your new work!

    There’s been plenty of discussion about the economics of webcomics. I assume you want to make some money from this venture. I hope you don’t mind me asking what sort of business model you’ll be following…subscriptions, donations, advertising, something else?

  2. Thanks, Randy. Yeah, one of the reasons I’m doing this is to see if I can crack the code for making a few bucks from cartooning without the support of a newspaper or syndicate. About the only thing I’ve ruled out is a subscription model, which may be the fasted way to a little money but severely limits audience. I want as many readers as possible. I’m still working on the business model. Building audience is the first task; the rest, I’m hoping, will become apparent as I go along.
