Speaking from Kuwait, where he lives in exile, the 62-year-old Syrian is one of the Middle East’s most important living artists. Since the late 1960s, his satirical drawings and caricatures of political figures have been widely published at home and abroad, won international awards and been banned in several countries whose leaders have found themselves at the sharp end of his pen.
