Interviewed: Jeff Smith and post RASL projects
Skip to commentsThe Columbus Dispatch talks to Bone creator Jeff Smith about his RASL series and the projects he’s working on after it.
Q: So what are you working on these days?
A: I’ve mostly been recovering. The end of a huge project can be pretty nerve-racking… . I wasn’t taking any breaks and working nearly 20 hours a day… . What I’m working on now is a new project that’s really in the early stages. So I’m doing what I consider is the fun part of the job – which is research: watching movies, reading books and figuring out what I want to do.
Q: With the success of Bone, you don’t really need to put in 20-hour days anymore, right? You’re doing this out of love?
A: That’s a pretty fair statement. Bone’s success freed me of worrying whether RASL made a lot of money. RASL was successful but nothing like Bone. I was free to do the story I wanted… . I’m a cartoonist. I don’t know how to do anything else. That’s what I love. I get a lot of joy out of the whole process.
