From a trusted source I’ve learned that that there has been a couple of leadership changes inside Universal Uclick. Lee Salem has announced that he has relinquished his title of Editor. He started with the company since 1974 as an assistant editor before rising through the ranks to President in 2006. Since then he has retained the title of Editor which kept him in association with the editorial department. According to the internal memo sent to staff and UU syndicated cartoonists, after the 2011 United Media management deal, serving both roles became “unwieldy.” Lee states that his role moving forward is more focused on business opportunities.
The second announcement is that Vice President of Acquisitions and Rights John Glynn has been given the title of Editorial Director for all editorial matters. He will continue to be responsible for acquisition and development of new talent. John started in the company in 2000 as the acquisitions editor and in 2005 became the Vice President of Acquisitions and Rights. Previous to getting into syndication business, he was a cop in Chicago.
Glynn won’t last. He’s easily confused and has low self-esteem.
Pastis, haven’t you figured out by now that “Glynn” is just a figurehead, and may not even be a real person? Who’s REALLY pulling the strings? Follow the numbers, but trust no one. Except for Tom Hanks. He’s America’s sweetheart.
I’ve interviewed him and his lovely wife, and I know who has the power there. I suspect John is a construct of some sort.
How can you trust a man who has no vowels in his last name? Sometimes “Y.” Please.
Glynn? Is that the one who looks like Ed Asner?
Let’s take a poll on how long he’ll last. I’ll say 7 weeks. We’ll bet his monthly intake of donuts.
Hmm. I’m not sure I can afford that.
“… his role moving forward is more focused on business opportunities.”
Too vague. Meaningless.
That’s where I know him from! That sob arrested me back in 94′ outside the Taste of Chicago. I’ll get you Glynn!
And all this time I thought he used to be an astronaut.
Does this make John the Lone Ranger?
Can he be bought?
Yes, Glynn once hunted down society’s clowns with a gun, now he hunts them down with a syndication deal 🙂
Best. Replies. Ever.
Seriously, congrats to JG. He’s a stellar guy to work with. I just wish his jokes were funnier.
Congrats to John and to Lee. I don’t care what Pastis says, John is a nice guy. When he is sober.
He’s been sober?
Ironic…from the crime syndicate beat to cartoon syndicate godfather. Congratulations, John and don’t ever lose the love for donuts!
..
Sounds like he gets to play “Good Cop, Bad Cop”.
Glynn still owes me money. Just sayin’.
I think John’s just doing this until he gets that big break. He’s an amazing composer of children’s songs. Buy him a Chimay and he just may regale you with his pepperoni pizza song.
But I saw this coming for Lee Salem years ago. I mean, seriously, what has he done since DOONESBURY?
I’ve never met John Glynn, but he has always responded to every e-mail I have sent him. Yes, the responses have always been for me to eff off, but I’m sure he doesn’t mean it.
Congrats!
Well at least with his new found legitimacy he might be able to finally leave his “Magic Mike” days behind him.
John Glynn is handsome and brave and a deep thinker and has got it goin’ on where it counts, if you know what I mean. And I’m not saying that just to be controversial.
