Leigh Rubin featured in San Luis Obispo

Leigh Rubin gets a lengthy write-up over at the San Luis Obispo Tribune where he opines about the charmed life of cartooning, Trudeau and Guisewite sabbaticals being ‘because they can afford to’ and other Rubes tidbits and inner-workings.

The origins of Rubes began with greeting cards he made while working at his fatherâ??s Panorama City print shop. Eventually, he started drawing comics and pitching them to papers. And in 1989, his career received a significant boost when Creators Syndicate â?? host to comics B.C., Wizard of Id and Rugrats â?? picked him up and distributed his comics across the world.

The Rubins and their three sons moved to the Central Coast from Southern California in 1999. While his comic appears everywhere and the merchandising does well, Rubin lives in a modest home in a middle-class residential neighborhood.

I would be interested in seeing the number of clients Rubes had before and after The Far Side retirement.  I suspect that Leigh got a good size jump in numbers about that time.  Sometimes in this industry timing is as important as talent.
