This Friday’s Non Sequitur to be swapped out in International Herald Tribune (UPDATE)

The International Herald Tribune (IHT) wants to substitute this Friday’s Non Sequtuir according to E&P. The cartoon in question pokes fun of Ann Coulter who is wearing a burqa after getting everything she’s ever wished for (the non-existence of liberals being one of those things).

Universal Press has given them a strip from a year ago to run in it’s stead.
UPDATE:  Dave Astor has posted an update to the story over on E&P’s site. Included in the update is a response from Wiley Miller

In response to Burtt’s statement, “Non Sequitur” creator Wiley Miller said in a Wedneday e-mail: “It’s the right, even obligation, of every editor to run or censor anything they deem appropriate for their newspaper, no matter how vague the rationale might be.”

But he added: “Under the reasoning they’ve stated, every cartoon could be deemed inappropriate… . So I think they’ve been less than forthcoming on the real reason they’re afraid to run this rather mild satire. But that’s their right.”

  1. Is Non Sequitur an editorial cartoon or cartoon strip?
    It seems a bit schizophrenic.

Leave the politics in the editorial page, not the comic page.

  3. It’s hard to judge what they might have thought was so risky without seeing the actual cartoon, but judging strictly by the text, it seemed pretty tame.
