New CG Garfield To Air On Cartoon Network

Turner Broadcasting has acquired the rights to The Garfield Show, will be shot in HD, and debut on the Cartoon Network in 2009. The series will air in territories across Europe, Middle East and Africa; Asia Pacific and Latin America.

Stephen Silver win Television Animation Award

Stephen Silver has been awarded this year’s Television Animation division Award for his work on the television show Kim Possible. Currently Stephen is a character designer at Disney Television Animation and has done work for Warner Bros and Columbia Tristar.

“Cathy” featured on “30 Rock”

Last night’s “30 Rock” featured a Cathy comic strip that was created specific for the show. During the show, Tina Fey is shown looking at the “Cathy” cartoon in the New York Post. Fey is over a candy counter and mimics the character Cathy’s words: “Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate-ACCK!!!” The New York Post doesn’t run Cathy in real life.

Simpsons deemed inappropriate in Venezuela

“The Simpsons” were taken off the air in Venezuela because of several complaints by viewers that it was inappropriate for children. The station replaced Matt Groening’s show with Baywatch Hawaii and hasn’t fielded any more complaints.

“It had to be taken off,” Televen TV station spokeswoman Elba Guillen said. “They consider it to be a series that isn’t appropriate for that time because it isn’t appropriate for children.”

Apparently there is concern that The Simpsons could violate “national regulations prohibiting “messages that go against the whole education of boys, girls and adolescents.”

Two Boondock episodes yanked from U.S. to run in Canada

Two upcoming episodes of Aaron McGruder’s The Boondocks will not be viewed in the U.S. because the Cartoon network pulled them because “they savage another cable network, BET.”

BET CEO Debra Lee is depicted in Sunday’s episode as Debra Lee-vil, a Dr. Evil clone who kills underlings and rants about creating a network “that would accomplish what hundreds of years of slavery, Jim Crow and malt liquor couldn’t – the destruction of black people.”

BET entertainment president Reggie Hudlin – once a Boondocks executive producer – is depicted as Dr. Lee-vil’s Harvard-educated lieutenant whose idea is to steal five-year-old reality show ideas from MTV.

McGruder pushes parody to the limits in a relentless attack that continues in the next episode, where Uncle Ruckus, a self-hating black man, gets his own offensive BET reality show.

The banned episodes will be broadcast in Canada this Sunday.

Stephan Pastis to appear second time on CNBC

Just got word from United Media that Pearls Before Swine creator Stephan Pastis is appearing for a second time on CNBC’s “The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch.” Air date is Monday (March 3rd) at 10 p.m. and 1 a.m.

Pearls Before Swine creator Stephan Pastis will be on “The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch” tomorrow night to discuss his success with his comic feature. “The Big Idea” is a nightly discussion between host Donny Deutsch and a guest who have made it big.

Catch it on CNBC at 10pm EST.

Charlie Brown wins (a coke) in Super Bowl ad

Charlie Brown made a surprise appearance in the 3rd quarter of yesterday’s Super Bowl to finally win something … a Coca-Cola. The cola ad featured giant inflatable balloons of Family Guy’s Stewey and Underdog fighting over an inflatable bottle of Coke. Out of nowhere Charlie Brown appears to capture the beverage prize.

The Associated Press called the ad “perhaps the most visually stunning spot” of the night.
